I’m writing this under the covers, surrounded by meds and lozenges, contemplating ordering a new throat online. I’ve decided that perhaps writing will serve as a welcome distraction from my present state of Satan Throat. I think that’s the technical term. If you saw my original Net a Parcel post or if you follow my insta-stories you’ll know I’m a big fan of said company/service. Whilst South Africa’s online shopping scope is improving, there’s still a lot that’s not available to us and asking friends to be Anthropolie mules is just rude (sorry Johan!).
Net a Parcel hooks you up with a unique mailbox in Florida and when you order online it’s this U.S. address you list to ship to. The item is then received, shipped and cleared by Net a Parcel on your behalf. Once you’ve paid the duties, it’s couriered to your door and you don’t need to spend hours at the pesky post-office trying to locate your package. They’ve got a cost calculator on the site which helps you determine what you’re in for before you order, so you shouldn’t be in for a nasty surprise. I recently ordered a WiFi-enabled SD card from Amazon for a quarter of the price of what they’re available for in South Africa. The duties were around R400, so I still saved 50% on my purchase. I think if you shop sales you’re in the money because the duties are calculated based on the value of the goods. You’ve got visibility of every step of the process via your profile and parcel status too, which I love. Here’s an example from a recent purchase of mine:
I recently ordered some gorgeous white super-king pillowcases from The White Company and treated myself to one of their famous Winter candles; I’m a cinnamon fiend and just couldn’t resist. I took some pictures of this delivery because the packaging is so beautiful and it’s such a premium brand experience at every touchpoint. I’ve also ordered a cheeky little avocado tee from Joju in France that I’ll share on Instagram as soon as it arrives next week.
I’m giving away 2 annual Net a Parcel memberships valued at R695 each. This covers NAP’s admin and the cost of your mailbox rental for the year. All you need to do is comment on this blog post and let me know what you’ve been lusting after online. Competition closes Monday 20th February 2017 at midnight. Please ensure you fill in your e-mail address when you comment (don’t worry this won’t be published) so I can contact you if you’re a winner.
Fingers crossed and happy online shopping!
