Business Class From Web Africa
Leave a commentI’ve just had word from one of my sponsors, Web Africa, that they’ve just launched a sexy new business offering set to rival all local internet service providers.
“The Business Uncapped product offers Uncapped ADSL from R299 per month, and now includes, at no extra cost, a .co.za domain, a web hosting package with unlimited traffic and a R400 Google AdWords voucher. In addition, each Business Uncapped subscriber has access to Expert Support in which service queries are handled by only the most experienced call centre agents.”
Nice.

My Winter Watch-list
Leave a commentHaving recently become the proud owner of my first home, and my first bond [yikes], I shouldn’t really be spending money on things I don’t absolutely need. This pretty much rules out everything besides a new kitchen and bathroom. But hey, there’s no harm in window shopping…
Meerkats. Squirrels. Obsessed. Found this little guy in @Home on the weekend. They’ve also got a gorgeous moose knit hot water bottle which I can’t find online. Go check it out.
Zara don’t seem to have a South African website yet, but I found this on the global site and I’ve seen it in-store. Covet!
I’m a big fan of worshondjies. I’m also a fan of the word worshondjie. Love this knit from Mr. Price.
Lego has a very special place in my heart. I’m also a Moleskine addict. I must have this.
Some of my favourites from the Hello Winter exhibition by John Steven and Nicholas Christowitz at the lovely Wolves on Corlett Drive.
Gelish has changed my life. I pay R175 for a soak-off and polish and it lasts around three weeks, sometimes I apply a coat of regular polish in a matching shade to extend the life of my Gelish manicure which starts to grow out. No chips, no breaks, and my nails underneath are stronger than they’ve ever been.
I reckon this is a Marmite car. You either love it or you hate it. Well, I’m in camp love. I’d like to test drive one of these puppies soon.
The biggest WW Food Market in the country, complete with butchery, bakery and fish-monger. Working less than 5 minutes from Nicolway is going to prove problematic.
Keep warm this winter y’all. Happy shopping. And stay sexy.

Consol Solar Jar
Leave a commentI’ve recently moved and spent the weekend playing house-house in my gorgeous new flat. I guess I played flat-flat then. Anyhoo. The back-end of last year was somewhat of a nightmare, as you can tell by the sheer lack of commitment to my poor little bloglet from November onwards and most of my life remained in boxes until this weekend. One such item that remained unpacked and unopened was a fabulous gift from the kind folk at Consol. When I received it last year I thought it was simply a jar with a thank-you note inside. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Enter the Consol Solar Jar, launched in November 2011 and designed locally.
“The lid mechanism of the 1 litre Consol Classic jar has been fitted with solar-powered LED lights and the top boasts solar panelling that, when placed in the sunlight, powers the LED batteries. The solar-powered jar offers almost 6 hours of light before it needs to be recharged in the sun. The product contains a switch so that the light can be controlled when required. The jar received the Special Recognition Award at the 2011 Institute of Packaging SA Gold Pack Awards.”
I tested it out on Friday night and was amazed by both the duration of light provided as well as the intensity. I also hadn’t charged mine in the sun, but placed it beneath a light in my kitchen for a while to charge. I’m super impressed and will certainly be making a trip to Consol to buy a stash for future outdoor dinner parties and the like. Oh, the joy of never having to buy another bloody tea-light candle or deal with the wind blowing them out.
These Bad Boys retail at R120 incl. VAT and can be purchased here.
Here’s to a happy, healthy and efficient 2012.

Consol Choose Glass Week
Leave a commentIf you didn’t know, this week is International Glass Week and the folk at Consol have supplied some inspiration:
Glass is infinitely recyclable
Our legacies are shaped by our decisions. You can choose to make yours one of preservation, respect and good taste. The glass you use every day begins its life as sand and retains its composition to the last molecule. This makes glass all natural and 100% recyclable. With this in mind, it’s perfectly clear why glass packaging is the environmentally-conscious choice. Choose to recycle. Choose glass.
Glass is versatile
Consistent in form and limitless in function, glass is as reliable as it is versatile. All while maintaining its good looks and strength. After its initial purpose, all you have to do is wash your glass bottles and jars to reuse and reinvent them over and over and over. Choose to reinvent. Choose glass.
Glass adds style
You deserve a life, resplendent throughout. One of shimmering brilliance, breath-taking visions and timeless elegance. No matter what the occasion, glass never fails to add a sense of taste, style and class. Choose clink-clink and cheers! Choose glass.
Glass is the healthy choice
You can live a life overflowing with vitality, secure in the knowledge that what you see us what you really get. By virtue of its inert nature, glass is healthy packaging that ensures what you choose to eat and drink, is protected from synthetic chemicals such as BPA*. Choose to preserve, not pollute. Choose your health. Choose glass.
*Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine disruptor that can mimic the body’s own hormones and may lead to negative health effects such as breast cancer and infertility – with a child’s early development being a period of heightened danger. Source: CANSA “Fact Sheet of Bisphenol A”
Things taste better in glass
Every day you can experience a freshness that lasts; immaculate, protected and pure. By virtue of its impermeable nature, glass packaging enables food and beverages to be naturally preserved, eliminating the need for added preservatives. The true taste of your food and beverages remains intact and exactly as initially intended – wholesome and bursting with goodness! Choose taste. Choose glass

The images at the top provide for some great inspiration for Christmas this year. I know I’ll be serving Bloody Marys in jars at our Boktoberfest office party on Friday!

Web Africa Joins the Redvolution
Leave a commentRed Africa, formerly known as Web Africa, have taken a gamble by jumping on the red brand-wagon following Vodacom‘s rebrand. Red Africa CEO Matthew Tagg had this to say about the ballsy decision:
“We had an extensive look at the industry and concluded that red must be the way of the future. Our previous branding is unsustainable in comparison, so we have decided to join the ‘redvolution’. We’re a bit late to the party and ultimately don’t know where this is going, but if everyone else is doing it, it’s probably a good thing! Plus my mom likes red too.”
To celebrate, Red Africa have launched an exclusive “Red Alert” special for 30Gb’s at R199 and are also throwing in an extra 100Gb’s of Download Plus bandwidth free of charge. Throughout the week they will open up the special for 30 sign-ups every day at 12:00pm – first come first served. Special closes this Friday.
Here to take advantage of the Red Alert offer.

Pick n Pay Launches Smart Shopper
Leave a commentThe suits behind Pick n Pay (PnP) have clearly upped their game in the recent months. First the launch of The Mecca on William Nicol (which sells Sinnful ice-cream, swoon), then PnP Travel and now this! Enter PnP Smart Shopper, a customer loyalty program that allows customers the opportunity to accrue a point for every rand spent. For every R1000 spent, a minimum of 1% of that will be available to be redeemed as cash back via the Smart Shopper card (that percentage increases through double, triple and bonus points accrued, and no, physical cash cannot be redeemed). That’s nice, but what about giving back? No problem, you can donate your accrued points/cash to a charity of your choice.
“The programme is and will always be clear and transparent and provide a real customer benefit, beyond the financial rewards. Very importantly, the technology and security systems we have employed will make sure that absolutely no confidential information on our customers is shared in any way, ever, with any third parties”, says Pick n Pay Marketing Director, Bronwen Rohland.
The move is long overdue and it’s about time local grocery brands followed in the footsteps of their first-world counterparts like Tesco and Sainsburys by truly rewarding shoppers for their custom, and better still, allowing customers the opportunity to allocate monies earned instead of making the decision for them.
How could this scheme be improved upon? By affording customers the option to exchange points for deals on travel, electronics, experiences, dining out and the likes. Hell, while we’re at it, why not develop an iPhone and BlackBerry app allowing shoppers to check points, view specials and product news, locate stores etc? Use it, don’t use it.
Avoid standing in queues to register your Smart Shopper card by registering it online here, and here to follow Pick n Pay on Twitter.
