The Browery Launches in Johannesburg | Microblading

The Browery Johannesburg
An example of the result achieved through microblading, these beautiful brows were built for Lauren in February by The Browery, Johannesburg

This post is a huge deal to me. I’m not sharing information about any new business launch; I’m sharing the news of MY new business launch. This is something I’ve been growing, nurturing and perfecting behind the scenes for a while now, and I’m finally ready to let the world know about it. I’ve set up a microblading studio (I’ll explain what that is in a bit) in Johannesburg; The Browery. I’ve had an obsession with eyebrows for as long as I can remember. I know that sounds a little odd, but it’s the first thing I notice on a person and it’s often the easiest way to create a really striking eye, or to create facial symmetry. I often find myself looking at strangers and wishing I could help them with their eyebrow shape; it really makes all the difference. My passion for brows, combined with my love for art and drawing/painting extremely fine lines collided in this rather unusual place; a microblading studio. I’ve trained through an internationally accredited permanent makeup training facility and created a sterile studio environment. I’m also in the process of completing my bloodborne pathogens certification.

What is microblading?

Microblading is a relatively new technique, and the aim is to create eyebrow shape and fullness where there wasn’t any before. Individual micro hair-strokes are hand drawn into the epidermal (shallow) layer of the skin using a variety of shades of pigment to achieve an extremely realistic 3D hair-stroke and result. What I love about the microblading technique is the result looks completely real; no eyebrow pen or powder can create an individual hair-stroke of this size and proportion. It also shaves a ton of time in getting ready for girls who draw in their brows; this way you wake up with the perfect pair. First a series of measurements are taken to create a symmetrical brow shape and outline using a pencil; client features are factored into these measurements to create the ‘perfect’ brow and correct any inconsistencies. When the client is happy with the proposed shape, we move on to the microblading part of the procedure. A topical anaesthetic is applied to ensure the procedure is pain-free throughout. A tiny sterile blade is used to create a hairstroke and this is saturated with pigment; the process is repeated until the shape and desired volume is achieved. With proper care and maintenance in the weeks that follow the procedure, the result can last for up to 3 years. A follow-up session is scheduled 6 weeks after the initial session in order to ensure the result is perfect and to fill in any gaps or areas where the pigment might have faded.

How long does the microblading procedure take?

The standard procedure duration is 2 hours, but can vary depending on how much or little shaping is required.

Does it hurt?

No, the procedure is pain-free if performed correctly and we anaesthetise (topically, no injections) throughout to ensure complete comfort. There is no pain and no blood.

How can I book?

Visit www.browery.co.za and click Book Now to book via the live online booking portal. If the available appointment slots don’t suit, feel free to get in touch and we’ll try our best to accommodate you at a time that does.

How much does the microblading procedure cost?

It costs R2450, and that includes the refinement session at 6 weeks.

How long is the healing process?

The brows take between 4 – 6 weeks to heal completely and for the final healed result to be visible. As the skin adjusts to the pigment the colour can darken and fade; because of this we will only retouch at 6 weeks. It is normal for the brows to fade by about 20% from the day of the procedure to the result at 6 weeks.

How do I care for my brows during the healing process?

Dry healing is best and we do not recommend putting any ointments or creams onto the brows. Heavy exercise and sweating should be avoided for a week after the procedure to prevent infection and to ensure the result is perfect.

How long do microbladed brows last?

With proper care and maintenance during the healing phase, the result can last for up to 3 years. This varies from person to person depending on care, skin type and reaction to pigment.

Where is The Browery located?

The Browery is in Illovo, Johannesburg.
